5 Creative DIY Animal Halloween Costumes

Halloween's around the corner!

Time to start planning those adorable and totally Instagrammable costumes.

Ditch the store-bought duds—this year, we're going on a DIY safari with our kiddos!

Full costume instructions here.

Funky Skunks

Go beyond "cute as a button" to "cute as a skunk"—without the smell, promise!

Grab a black hoodie, some black and white faux fur, and a hot-glue gun.

Create a faux fur strip for the hood and a fluffy tail for the back.

Bonus: all you need is about a 9x12-inch piece of craft fur for this cuddly critter!

Sparkly Jellyfish

Light up the night—and your kiddo's face—with this radiant jellyfish getup.

Using a wearable umbrella, string lights, and some colorful ribbons, your child will literally glow in the dark!

You'll need 4 or 5 strands of LED fairy lights and a foldable UFO umbrella to make this underwater wonder.

Over-the-Top Peacock

Is your little one the extrovert of the family?

Make them the star of the show with this flamboyant peacock ensemble.

All you need are some green paper sheets, a hot-glue gun, and feathers.

Oh, and don't forget a canvas belt to attach the glorious tail feathers. Work it, baby!

Prickly Hedgehog

For a cozy and adorable hedgehog, your primary tool will be a hot-glue gun and lots of whole-wheat rigatoni.

Yep, you heard that right!

Attach the pasta to a tan hoodie and you've got instant prickly spines. Complete the look with a cute mushroom-themed bucket for all that candy.

Slowpoke Snail

The ideal pick for your laid-back munchkin!

With some brown butcher paper, a bit of orange tape, and neon-orange paracord, you'll craft a shell that's both lightweight and authentic.

Create eye-stalks using a headband, chenille stems, and Styrofoam balls.

Slow and steady wins the race—or at least the candy.

Featured Response 😄

“My battery is pretty low come end of the work week. So usually Fri-Sun we are going out or doing takeout and I just started a meal kit delivery plan last week that the whole family has really been loving. I'm cooking still but occasionally they help and noone is stressed out trying to figure out what to have, meal prep or shopping. ”

Mom Hack

Soap Portion Control with a Rubber Band

Mom Hack

Too much soap again?

Put a rubber band around the soap dispenser as a 'stopper.'

It'll limit the amount pumped out, giving just the right dollop for little hands.

Strawberry Ghosts

Halloween is knocking on our doors, and guess what?

We've got the cutest, yummiest, and, okay, healthiest treat to spook up the dessert table!

Say hello to Strawberry Ghosts! 🍓👻

Ingredients 📝

  • 1 pint strawberries, rinsed and dried

  • 8 oz melting chocolate, white

  • 1 oz melting chocolate, chocolate (for face)

  • Parchment paper

Instructions 👩‍🍳

  1. Wash 'n' Dry: Rinse those strawberries and let them chill on a paper towel.

  2. Set the Stage: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place strawberries and a hot pad next to it. P.S. If that parchment paper starts to curl up, a dash of cooking spray will make it behave.

  3. Melt White Chocolate: Melt your white chocolate cubes on LOW heat, stirring like a maniac. Patience, mama! The smoother, the better.

  4. The Big Dip: Tilt that pot and dip your strawberries in. Swoosh them onto the paper so they get a cute little ghost tail.

  5. Cool & Decorate: Let them solidify. Then, melt the milk chocolate and pipe on tiny eyes and mouths. A quick fridge visit will finish the job.

Notes 📌

  • Double Boiler Magic: If you’re like me and worry about burning chocolate, use a double boiler. DIY it if you don't have one!

  • Storing Like a Pro: Keep these cuties in an airtight container. Room temp if you're eating the same day, fridge if you’re holding onto them.

  • No Sweat: A paper towel + baking soda combo at the bottom of your storage container will keep those pesky beads of condensation away.

Wrap-Up:
Moms, Strawberry Ghosts are not just cute, they’re kiddo-approved! (And hey, at least they’re getting some fruit this Halloween.)

Perfect for little hands to help make and big mouths to help eat! 🎃🤗

Mini Cork Love Bugs

Source: notimeforflashcards

For this one, you'll need some corks, markers, and googly eyes.

The kids will love gluing the eyes and coloring the corks to life.

Use some construction paper to punch out heart-shaped wings and keep everything on a tray to avoid roll-away frustration.

The tutorial is here.
