Although turkey is synonymous with Thanksgiving now, our ancestors were likely munching on venison and seafood, given Massachusetts' abundant seafood options.

The Three-Day Party

Question: How long did the first Thanksgiving last?
Answer: 3 days

While our current feasts span a day, the Pilgrims had a 3-day long fiesta to celebrate their first bountiful corn harvest. Talk about a real Thanksgiving bash!

The Origin of the Feast

Want a trip down memory lane? Head to Plymouth, where some of the Pilgrims' original settlements stand tall. It's like stepping into a time machine!

Answer: Balloons

While we eagerly wait for the parade's balloons today, the first parade featured no such floaty wonders! However, live zoo animals stole the show.

Date Debacles

Answer: No

In 1939, to spur holiday shopping, Roosevelt shifted Thanksgiving to the third week of November. But it returned to its rightful date two years later.

Gridiron Glory

Question: Why is football played on Thanksgiving?
Answer: Baseball used to be too popular.

To shift Detroit's baseball-centric focus, football games were introduced on Thanksgiving. And voilà! A tradition was born.

The Shopping Mystery

Question: Why is the day after Thanksgiving called Black Friday?
Answer: To keep people away from stores!

Ironically, what is now the biggest shopping day was once named to deter folks from shopping post-Thanksgiving.

Pie-less Panic

Answer: Colchester, Connecticut

In Colchester, no pumpkin pie literally meant no Thanksgiving!

The Turkey Myth Debunked

Question: True or false: Eating turkey makes you tired.
Answer: False

While turkey has the sleepy amino acid tryptophan that affect lab rats (not significant for humans), it's probably those scrumptious sides and desserts that actually make us yearn for a post-feast nap!

So there you have it, mommies - from feasting trends to parade tales, and pie shortages to turkey myths.
