Finding 'Me-Time': A Busy Mom's Survival Guide

The art of mom-ing is a 24/7 gig, with 'me-time' often falling off the to-do list like lost socks in the laundry.

But fear not, this article unveils some sanity-saving self-care tips tailor-made for the busy mama bear in all of us.

Neglecting yourself can result in stress, exhaustion, and illness, so it's time to buckle up and embrace a little "me-time".

Get Moving, Get Grooving

Fitness is not always about sweat and scales.

Whether it's: strolling around your block, pumping those bicycle pedals, or training for a 5k, getting your blood pumping outdoors is a perfect way to rejuvenate.

Brainy is the New Sexy

Taking care of the brain is just as important.

  • Write in your journal

  • Doodle

  • Read

  • Meditate

  • Engage in a puzzle

  • Start a side-hustle

Mental activities keep our minds sharp and our spirits high.

Treat Yourself

Moms, the throne is yours, so own it!

  • Relax in a hot bath

  • Plan a spa day

  • Nap like a queen

And remember, the world will still rotate on its axis while you have that facial.

Friendship is Therapeutic

Lunch at a new restaurant or a walking date with your bestie?

Yes, please!

Friendship is the lifeboat in the ocean of motherhood.

Plus, who else will laugh at your kid's latest 'toilet art'?

Explore and Experience

Got the adventurous mom gene?

  • Try rock-climbing

  • Hike a new trail

  • Visit a local landmark for the first time

  • Hone your cooking skills

  • Strum that long-neglected guitar

Rediscover yourself outside the realm of motherhood.

Set the Stage for Self-care

Make your home a sanctuary of relaxation with a stash of your favorite teas, essential oils, or a comfort corner filled with your favorite blanket or pillow.

A Friendly Reminder

Self-care requires support, too.

Remember to ask for help when needed, and maybe even wake up a tad early to get ready before the kiddos invade.

Takeaway

Like they say, "you can't pour from an empty cup."

So here's to finding your balance and prioritizing your well-being as much as you prioritize the laundry.

After all, a healthier, happier mom is the family's greatest treasure.

Mom Hack

Keep a bin in your kid’s closet for clothes.

paisleyandsparrow.com

Stash a bin in your kiddo's closet for outgrown onesies and rompers.

Toss it in the bin instead of schlepping to the basement with each mini growth spurt.

Once it's brimming, cap it off, and voila - ready for storage.

Bonus hack: scribble the sizes on a paper, slip it in the bin's front, and you've got yourself an instant closet inventory!

Sweet Potato: One Recipe, Three Baby Foods!

ymmytoddlerfood.com

Ever feel like a short-order cook catering to everyone's unique tastes?

Well, with our favorite Sweet Potato Baby Food recipe, you're about to become a mealtime magician, serving up deliciousness to all your sweetie pies, no matter their preferred texture.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large orange-fleshed sweet potato (or garnet yam)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with foil. Give it a quick spray with nonstick stuff.

  2. Wash and dry your sweet potato. No mud pies here!

  3. Slice and dice: cut the potato in half, then lengthwise into strips. Cut again until each strip is about ½ inch thick. If your potato's a real whopper, slice it in half horizontally, too. (Each strip should be about the size of your finger.)

  4. Toss 'em in a bowl with the olive oil.

  5. Spread out your 'tater tots onto the prepared baking sheet and let them roast for 22-25 minutes or until soft.

  6. After a tiny cool-down, they're ready to serve as a Baby-Led Weaning-style finger food.

Or you can take it a step further.

For thick mash, remove the skin and mash with a fork - perfect for those little hands that are mastering the spoon.

For thin sweet potato puree, keep mashing, adding 1 tablespoon of warm water at a time until you reach the perfect slurp-able consistency.

And there you have it, folks - one sweet potato, three ways to serve it.

It's like having your own culinary magic wand! Now if only it worked on laundry...

Don't forget, any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for 3-5 days in the fridge.

Enjoy your magic mommy moment - you've earned it.
