7 Tips to Help Toddlers Sleep

Moms, are you up all night because your little one thinks sleep is for the birds?

We've got some super practical advice to help your toddler go from wide-awake to sound asleep. Let's dive in!

A Calming Routine is a Must

  • What to do: Make bedtime the same time every night and do calming things like reading or taking a bath before sleep. Don't let your child watch TV or play video games before bed; it'll only hype them up.

  • Mom tip: Try adding a drop of lavender essential oil to the bath or using a lavender-scented lotion. The scent can help both you and your tot relax.

The Sleep Fairy: Your New Best Friend

  • What to do: Introduce your child to the "Sleep Fairy," who brings a small reward in the morning if they stay in bed all night. A quarter or a small toy will do.

  • Mom tip: Make a "Sleep Fairy" jar and let your child decorate it. They'll feel more invested in the idea and it adds a creative touch to the routine.

Stickers Make Everything Better

  • What to do: Use a sticker chart to motivate your toddler to stay in bed. Each morning they wake up in their own bed, they get to put a sticker on the chart.

  • Mom tip: Once the sticker chart is full, make it a big deal! Have a mini-celebration and do something fun together, like a visit to their favorite playground.

Goodnight, Then Goodnight Again

  • What to do: If your child is scared to be alone, promise to check on them 15 minutes after the first goodnight. This can make them feel safer.

  • Mom tip: Use a fun timer they can watch to know when you’ll return. It gives them something to focus on while they wait for you.

Play the 'Big Kid' Card

  • What to do: Remind your toddler that they're a big kid now, and big kids sleep in their own beds. This makes them feel grown-up and more willing to stay in bed.

  • Mom tip: Create a "Big Kid Sleep Certificate" and let them hang it on their wall. It's a fun way to celebrate their new "big kid" status.

Family Photos Bring Comfort

  • What to do: Put a family photo in their room. Tell them to look at it or kiss it if they feel lonely or scared.

  • Mom tip: Record a short, comforting voice message on your phone and place it near the photo. If they miss you, they can play the message to hear your reassuring voice.

Time to Get a Special Clock

  • What to do: Use a toddler alarm clock that changes color to show when it's okay to get up. Your toddler can understand this even if they can't tell time yet.

  • Mom tip: Before bedtime, practice the color-changing routine a few times so your child really understands when it's okay to get up.

To Wrap It Up:

Toddlers might be small, but their sleep troubles are a big deal.

With a mix of routine, rewards, and reassurance, you'll get them snoozing in no time.

Happy parenting, and may your nights be as restful as a baby who just discovered thumb-sucking! 😴🌙

Featured Response😄

“I don’t care what I’m wearing at home, but when it’s time to go out in the world, I like to at least look put-together. I like combining rock-band tees with patterned shorts/comfy pants or jeans and a bandana or headband to keep the hair out of my face with some comfy sandals or sneakers! Add some funky jewelry and some lipgloss and I’m good to go! ”
